Audiometric & Mask Fit Testing

Audiometric Testing

Insight Occupational Testing offers comprehensive hearing assessments and audiometric tests in accordance to the Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Code Part 16 on Noise. Preventing hearing loss through early identification by an audiogram (hearing test) is a must to meet legislative requirements, but also has other benefits such as; assessing the effectiveness of your noise exposure management system, and identifying individuals with hearing limitations which can lead to serious incidents.

Our comprehensive hearing assessments make it easy to comply with legislation and enhance safety in your workplace

In Alberta, if an employee works in an environment that exceeds 85dBs for 8 hours a day, the employer is responsible to provide adequate hearing protection, and conduct audiometric tests as party of a full hearing conservation program. This is outlined in Part 16 of the Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Code.

Audiometric testing is required to be done at the following intervals:

  1.  Initial Baseline Testing:
  • Must be conducted as soon as practicable but no later than six-months after the start of employment, or,
  • Within 6 months of a worker becoming exposed to noise due to changes in the organizations activities or duties.
  • It is recommended to be completed at the time of pre-employment to calculate a true baseline.

2. First Periodic Audiometric Test:

  • Must be conducted within twelve-months of the baseline test

3. After the “First Periodic Audiometric Test”, regular testing must be completed every two years thereafter.

  • Annual testing is recommended when noise levels exceed 105dBs

Prior to performing the hearing test, we will have your worker fill out an Audiometric Questionnaire. This questionnaire is an important and necessary step to obtain comprehensive case history on the worker. This includes documenting noise exposure history and determining current hearing status by checking for recent loud noise exposure. Once completed, one of our experienced health professionals will review the document and engage with the worker to ensure accuracy of the information provided. Any important information will be thoroughly addressed.

Once the information is complete, the workers ears will be physically examined and the hearing test performed. At the end of the hearing test, we will conduct a more formal educational component while advising the worker on their results and providing them with a copy of their test results. Our Audiologist will be reached, if necessary, to review test results, history and clinical information. The Audiologist will provide intervention when needed.

Finally, your authorized representative will be sent a secure and confidential report of the workers results.
